Lemoore was founded in 1871 by Dr. Lovern Lee Moore and officially incorporated on July 4, 1900, developing from a rural settlement into a thriving city.
Lemoore's downtown grew from the vision of one settler. In April 1871, Dr. Lovern Lee Moore arrived in the region and began establishing the community that would bear his name. In 1875, he purchased land for $3,500 and formally recorded his addition to the settlement in December 1877, naming the streets after pioneering families in the area. The community thrived as an agricultural center, and by 1900, Lemoore was incorporated as a city with an elected city council on July 4, 1900.
The downtown that emerged reflects a century of community building. The streets Dr. Moore laid out remain the core of the city today, with generations of families building homes, businesses, and institutions along those original pathways. The character of Lemoore's downtown is shaped by its agricultural roots and by the families who have built their lives and livelihoods in the community over generations.
